High-risk strategy — read before you buy

SMART AI EA is a grid and averaging system. It adds positions against an adverse move with an increasing lot progression. That design produces many small winning cycles, but a sustained one-way trend in which the averaging basket does not recover can cause very large losses, including loss of the entire account.

In our own historical testing, ordinary months reached 20–44% equity drawdown, and an unfavourable month produced a total loss of the test account. Only trade capital you can afford to lose entirely, and read the risk disclaimer in full.

How it works

Price movement, not prediction

There are no indicators, filters or forecasts. Every decision comes from how far price has travelled and the configured grid distance.

Open the hedge

Each cycle starts with a BUY and a SELL at your initial lot, forming the two-sided base structure.

Follow the move

Every full grid step, the side moving with the market adds at a fixed lot — the trend side.

Average the other side

The opposite side accumulates into the adverse move using the lot progression — the averaging side.

Book and reset

Trend positions close individually at their money target; the averaging book closes together once the group reaches its target.

Controls

Everything is configurable

Forty-nine inputs, a preset file, and an on-chart dashboard so you can always see what the EA is doing.

On-chart dashboard

Live status, both sides' exposure, floating P/L, the averaging group's progress, drawdown meter and licence state — drawn directly on the chart.

Hard exposure caps

A maximum lot per position and a separate cap on how deep the averaging book may go — the side that actually carries the risk.

Equity stop

Optional drawdown shutdown: close everything, stop, and stay stopped until you deliberately clear the lock. Off by default.

Gross trailing stop

Money-based basket trailing — once total floating profit arms the trail, a give-back from the peak banks the whole basket.

Fixed or proportional grid

Grid step as a fixed pip distance, or as a percentage of price so behaviour stays consistent as the instrument re-prices.

Trading session

Restrict new entries to an hour window in server time. Position management and closing always continue outside it.

Survives restarts

Cycle state is persisted, so a terminal restart resumes the cycle instead of silently restarting the lot progression.

Server-verified licence

Validated against TradeBridge on every heartbeat. A revoked licence or lapsed subscription stops new trades within seconds.

Trades in your dashboard

Every position it opens and closes is reported to TradeBridge with realised P/L, commission and swap — straight into your reports.

Risk profile

What the testing actually showed

We publish this because it is the most important thing to understand before running a grid system — not because it predicts anything.

The typical case
  • Most months in testing closed positive, with profit factors around 1.2–2.4.
  • Winning cycles are frequent and individually small.
  • Exposure caps kept the largest single position well under the broker maximum.
The tail
  • Ordinary months still reached 20–44% equity drawdown.
  • A single unfavourable month erased many months of gains.
  • With protection disabled, one test month lost the entire account.
  • Settings that improve the win rate generally enlarge this tail.

About these figures. They come from MetaTrader 5 strategy tester runs on historical XAUUSD data using specific settings, one broker's pricing and one symbol. Backtests do not include every real-world cost or condition, and they are not a forecast. Past performance does not indicate future results, and no profit is promised or implied. Your own results will differ with your broker, spread, settings, capital and the market you trade into.

Before you start

Requirements

  • MetaTrader 5 with algo trading enabled.
  • A hedging account — the EA holds BUY and SELL at once and will not start on netting.
  • An active TradeBridge licence and subscription.
  • https://tradebridge.live allow-listed under Tools → Options → Expert Advisors → Allow WebRequest.
  • Capital you can afford to lose, sized for a deep drawdown rather than the target return.
Our recommendations
  • Run on demo first, for long enough to see a losing stretch.
  • Keep the exposure caps enabled — they cost little and bound the worst case.
  • Choose the equity stop deliberately: too tight and it halts the strategy mid-recovery; too loose and it barely protects.
  • Use a separate magic number if you run other EAs on the same terminal.
  • Test your own settings across several market conditions before going live.
